What does Raw ingredients & products mean?

Products that are considered Raw consist of plant-based foods that are not heated over 40 degrees Celsius.

Raw food diets typically consist of large quantities of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and sprouted or soaked grains. A Raw diet is typically vegan, but some animal protein can be consumed whether it is dehydrated or eaten raw. Sashimi (raw fish) is an example of this.

Many foods that are rich in naturally occurring antioxidants are sensitive to cooking because some phytonutrients can be destroyed at high temperatures. Dehydrating, pickling and fermenting are some ways of preparing raw foods while potentially adding nutritional benefits.

Either no cooking or low cooking times at temperatures no greater that 40 degrees Celsius maintain a lot of the naturally occurring enzymes, and phytonutrients in the food. A greater quantity of enzymes in food enables better digestion as it is these enzymes that give our bodies a helping hand with the first stage of digestion before our bodies own digestive enzymes take over the job. With better digestion comes an improved delivery of nutrients to the body.

With the increase in interest in Raw food there is a multitude of options when it comes to raw treats, with ingredients that have positive effects on health, such as cacao, coconut oil and natural plant-based sweeteners.
