Our natural sunscreens contain active mineral ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which work by sitting on top of the skin to deflect UV rays away. Like a mirror on the skin, they work as a physical barrier to protect us, and begin to work immediately on application, verses chemical sunscreens which take around 20 minutes to provide protection. Chemical sunscreens typically contain ingredients such as oxybenzone and octinoxate as well as parabens and other preservatives which are known to damage coral and disrupt normal hormone balance.

Our strict sunscreen policy means that any natural sunscreen we stock must be free of any potentially harmful Red List ingredients and must be independently tested to ensure the sunscreen itself meets its label claims such as SPF and water resistance. We don’t allow aerosols either due to their potential to be inhaled and the release of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can be damaging to health. As for animal testing, we don’t tolerate this practice in any products we stock.
